Apple trees and other scenic highlights
Vezzano/Vetzan – Silandro/Schlanders – Morter – Rablà/Rabland – Vezzano/Vetzan
The Val Venosta/Vinschgau bottom of the valley is ideal for long cycling tours through South Tyrol. From the Residence Mathilda you cycle to nearby Silandro/Schlanders first then continue east via Morter and onwards via the villages Tarres/Tarsch and Tablà/Tabland, where challenging climbs await you, until you reach Rablà/Rabland. From there you then finally set off on the return journey on the Via Claudia Augusta cycle path where you pass numerous apple orchards that are particularly impressive in spring with their stunning pink and white blossom.

“Cima Coppi” circular tour
This circular tour is one of the most challenging cycling tours in South Tyrol. You can either start the tour right in front of the Residence Mathilda or travel as far as Spondigna/Spondinig by the Venosta/Vinschgau line and then cycle up to Prato allo Stelvio/Prad am Stilfserjoch. From here the tour includes a route of roughly 25 km and a difference in altitude of 1,850 m.
You cycle through Prato/Prad village and continue towards Passo dello Stelvio/Stilfserjoch. With a climb between 9% and 11% you will soon find your rhythm and finally reach the pass altitude from where you cycle down towards Switzerland, please remember to take your passport with you!
First of all it’s pretty bumpy over the Umbrailpass towards Santa Maria and Müstair, as the route from the Umbrailpass into the valley is not tarmacked. You then finally return to Italy again through the Val Monastero/Münstertal. You can get to Tubre/Taufers via the main road and to just before Medieval Glorenza/Glurns, where you then turn right again to Prato allo Stelvio/Prad am Stilfserjoch.

Grand cycle tour through Val Venosta/Vinschgau and South Tyrol’s south
Vezzano/Vetzan – Lagundo/Algund – wine route – Firmiano/Sigmundskron – Caldaro/Kaltern – Ora/Auer – Bolzano/Bozen – Marlengo/Marling – Lagundo/Algund – Laces/Latsch – Vezzano/Vetzan
From the Residence Mathilda this long tour leads along the Via Claudia Augusta cycle path to Lagundo/Algund, where you turn off towards the Forst brewery and cycle via Marlengo/Marling with a great view over Merano and Environs, to Lana. The route now runs along the wine route taking you to Firmiano/Sigmundskron and to Lago di Caldaro/Kalterer See via Appiano/Eppan. This is the perfect spot for taking a little break on the lake shore and enjoying the view over the sparkling lake.
You then continue to as far as Ora/Auer. From here you then travel on the Via Claudia Augusta again and reach Bolzano/Bozen and then Merano/Meran. There’s 250 metres difference in altitude ahead of you between Merano/Meran and Tel/Töll and then you leisurely cycle the last 27 km back to Vezzano/Vetzan.

“Giro d’Italia” feeling in Val Martello/Martelltal
Vezzano/Vetzan – Coldrano/Goldrain – Val Martello/Martelltal – Coldrano/Goldrain – Vezzano/Vetzan
From the Residence Mathilda you cycle to Coldrano/Goldrain, on the rural road to Ganda/Gand in Val Martello/Martelltal and then as far as the reservoir, which is the perfect backdrop for a trip into the rear of the Val Martello/Martelltal. At Gasthaus Schönblick you can top up your energy levels before setting off on the return trip (same route back).
